The Lion Slayer: A Tale of Ancient Phoenicia

In the heart of the Bronze Age, a young Phoenician boy longs to prove himself to his father. He sets out to slay a man-eating lion on the White Mountain of ancient Phoenicia—and returns victorious to Gebal (Byblos), bearing the lion’s hide. He earns not only his father’s respect but a new name: Aleon-Tabah, the Lion Slayer. But his trials are far from over. Forced into an arranged marriage with a woman who despises him, Aleon-Tabah must navigate personal turmoil, the schemes of a corrupt high priest, and a deadly plague. Set in a brutal world of sacred prostitution, ritual human sacrifice, and stormy Mediterranean seas, his journey transforms him from an ambitious youth into the most feared pirate of the Bronze Age.
about the AUTHOR

David Lee Gibbs

DAVID LEE GIBBS is a former fine artist and graphic designer who has spent over eight years honing his craft as a writer of historical fiction. Fascinated by his own ancestry, a 2007 DNA study revealed that his most ancient male ancestors likely came from the Middle East—possibly we’re Phoenicians. This discovery led to years of research into the rich but often overlooked history of these ancient seafarers. His deep dive into their culture, trade, and influence across the Mediterranean inspired The Lion Slayer, the first in a planned series chronicling the Phoenicians’ expansion from their homeland to Africa, Spain, England, and eventually the Colonial New World. Born in St. Louis, David spent most of his life in Southern California before retiring to Northern Texas, where he now lives and continues to write.
